Austrian National Holiday
Austria's National Holiday, October 26, commemorates the State Treaty restoring national sovereignty and the end of occupation, as well as the passage of the law on permanent neutrality, which was passed on that day in 1955. Every year, citizens of Vienna gather on Heldenplatz ("Heroes' Square") to celebrate. There, politicians hold speeches and the Austrian military displays its deadly weapons and machinery.

Life Ball
Life Ball is one of Europe's largest AIDS charity events and takes place anually in Vienna. Ever since the first Life Ball in 1993, it has grown to be a widely accepted and renowned social event, at the same time being free-spirited and representing open-mindedness and diversity in society. The photos presented here were taken at the 2005 event.
